Textile Marker System

The Issue:
At the request of Senator Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), the Small Business Administration was provided a grant of $500,000 in FY 2005 to help support development of a textile marker system.  During FY 2006, that grant – also in the amount of $500,000 – was channeled via the International Trade Administration.  Officials at the Oak Ridge Laboratory who have received the grant believe the systems will have application for anti-transshipment issues, although it remains unclear if this technology can find an application in this area.
