Bayh/Voinovich Legislation

In 2006, Congress passed and President Bush signed the Stop Counterfeiting in Manufactured Goods Act ((PL 109-81), which provided tougher penalties for the trafficking in counterfeit hangtags and labels.  The provisions enacted in this law has already had some results and will continue to help law enforcers prosecute counterfeiters. Efforts are now being made to encourage individual states to approve their own version of this bill.

Senators Evan Bayh (D-IN) and George Voinovich (R-OH) recently reintroduced other IPR legislation (S. 522), that seeks to further strengthen the management, coordination and effectiveness of intellectual property rights enforcement in the United States and overseas.
